The public preview of the new Microsoft Teams app for Windows is now available, featuring an array of enhancements to improve speed, performance, flexibility, and intelligence. Microsoft has streamlined the user experience, making it simpler to use and easier to access all your resources in one place. The new app lays the groundwork for AI-powered experiences like Copilot for Microsoft Teams, which was announced recently.

Users can experience the power of the new Microsoft Teams app, designed for faster performance and more efficient use of system resources. With launch times up to 2X faster and quicker access to meetings, users can stay focused on what matters most. The new app also supports cross-organizational collaboration and multi-account management, allowing them to be signed into multiple accounts and receive notifications for all of them at once. Plus, the new Teams app offers simplified IT management and enhanced data security, giving peace of mind as users collaborate with their team.

Faster and more resource efficient

New Teams

Microsoft has invested significantly in the development of the new Microsoft Teams app, with the goal of making it twice as fast while using only half the system resources.

The company has prioritized the user experience by focusing on the interactions that occur most frequently, including switching between chats, channels, and activities. The new Teams app allows for instant switching between these features, without having to wait for content to load, resulting in a faster and more responsive experience.

It has optimized scrolling speed and reduced wait times, enabling faster responses to your actions. The app has also been designed to consume up to 50% less memory and up to 70% less disk space, freeing up system resources for other applications.

Installation of the new Microsoft Teams app is 3X faster. Users can launch it up to 2X faster, join meetings up to 2X faster, and switch chats/channels up to 1.7X faster than before.

Effective collaboration across the organization

new Teams collaboration

Collaborating across organizations and managing multiple work or school accounts can be challenging, particularly when it comes to receiving real-time notifications during calls or meetings. Switching between accounts or organizations interrupts workflow, as it requires constant logging in and out.

But with the new Teams app, users can collaborate more effectively across organizational boundaries. The app allows users to be actively signed into multiple accounts simultaneously and receive real-time notifications, regardless of which account is currently in use. This enables seamless engagement with users across multiple accounts and organizations, without having to drop out of a call or meeting, thus ensuring no disruption to workflow.

Moreover, it eliminates the need for constant logging in and out, streamlining the collaboration process and improving productivity.

Simpler and feature-rich

Teams simpler

The new Microsoft Teams apps is designed with a focus on creating a more intuitive and inclusive user experience. Enhancements to the core Teams experience will make it easier for users to get timely notifications, search for information, manage their messages, and organize their channels.

The design has simplified navigation, increased flexibility in customization, and made Teams more accessible to people with disabilities. It accommodates the needs of different kinds of users, from remote workers to educators to healthcare professionals. The app provides a smooth management experience that simplifies the distribution of the Teams desktop app on Windows devices and eliminates the challenges related to user installation. The new Microsoft Teams app is intuitive, accessible, responsive and a more enjoyable and productive tool for collaboration.

Security of business data with the new Microsoft Teams app

To protect users from cyberattacks, Microsoft has incorporated advanced security measures into the new Microsoft Teams app. These measures include the adoption of Trusted Types and a more rigorous Content Security Policy, providing increased protection against cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks for all users.

Moreover, it has implemented the MSIX packaging format, which ensures that Teams is safeguarded by Windows security features, and users always have access to the latest app version with up-to-date security updates and bug fixes. This provides reliable protection against potential security threats, helping users work with peace of mind.

Microsoft plans to make the new Teams app generally available in 2023 and extend its preview release to a wider range of customers, including Mac users. While Public Preview program users can access the new Teams app immediately, commercial customers will need an admin to opt-in before accessing it via a simple toggle. Users can easily switch back to classic Teams anytime they want.
