IBM predicts five technologies will change the way world works by 2023

At its Think 2018 conference, IBM is making five technology predictions that it claims will have a big impact on the human lives in the next five years. Researchers at IBM Labs will show world’s smallest computer till date. They are not kidding, it is indeed smaller than the size of a grain of salt. The technologies that are predicted to have a huge impact on business and society by the year 2023 include crypto-anchors with blockchain, AI-based robot microscopes, lattice cryptography, unbiased AI systems, and quantum computers in the real world. Cryptographic anchors IBM claims that it is designing the computers smaller than the grain of salt, which will cost ten times lesser in manufacturing. These computers consist as many as one million transistors on them. The global economy loses arou...

Race to the cloud: Microsoft and IBM beat AWS, Google becomes $1B cloud company, while Alibaba enters top 5 cloud vendors list

Most of the top cloud service providers recently released their revenues for the final quarter of 2017 that ended 31st December. The cloud business drove results for many leading tech companies including Amazon and Microsoft. The top 5 cloud providers dominate almost three-fourth of the total cloud market. The final quarter data shows that expenditure on cloud infrastructure has rapidly grown throughout the year, especially in the last 3 months of 2017. Major portion of the cloud growth was driven by Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud. AWS maintained its dominance in the public cloud market, posting a revenue of $5.1 billion in fourth quarter, an increase of around 45% from the same quarter last year. AWS released around 500 new services ...

Biometrics authentication is future of identity authorization: IBM Study

A recent global study by the IBM Security has revealed that $112 billion has been stolen through identity fraud in the last six years, equating to around $35,600 lost every minute. People have been confirming their identities to access valuable services since the emergence of internet in the 1980s. It’s not only the society that has grown along with the internet, but also the fraudsters, con men, and organized crime have seen a rise. In 2015, the Javelin Strategy Research expected the fraud related to new online accounts to increase as much as 44% by 2018, and the loss to increase from $5 billion to $8 billion in just four years. The private information of consumers is compromised, and the current data breaches clear all doubts. Last month, it was found that sensitive information of 123 mi...

IBM and Salesforce have strengthened their strategic partnership further by announcing combining IBM Cloud and Watson services with Salesforce Quip and Salesforce Service Cloud Einstein. The move will help companies connect more effectively with their customers through better insights. Both the companies had first partnered in March 2017, to bring together some of their software services and AI platforms. In August 2017, IBM and Salesforce unveiled a new set of products including Weather Focus, and Scheduling Assistant. “The success of our customers drives everything we do at Salesforce, including our strategic partnership with IBM,” said Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO, Salesforce. “The combination of IBM Cloud and Watson services with Salesforce Einstein and Quip will deliver even more in...

IBM partnering with Maersk to set up a joint venture with blockchain focused on global trade

IBM and global shipping giant, Maersk, are setting up a joint venture to provide a developed digital platform that can speed up the trade and secure it, using blockchain technology. Goods worth $4 trillion are shipped each year, 80% of which are carried by ocean shipping industry. If the barriers within international supply chain are reduced, an increase of around 15% could be experienced in global trade. This will also enhance the economies and create more jobs. The collaboration between the two companies look promising, since IBM is leader in blockchain technology, while Maersk in container logistics. The joint venture has been designed for the entire shipping ecosystem worldwide, to provide more simplicity and transparency in carrying the goods. The blockchain technology will help the s...
