Cisco and Google finally shared more details about the Cisco Hybrid Cloud Platform for Google Cloud, which the companies announced last year. It is a hybrid cloud offering aimed to bridge the gap between IT operations teams and developers.
Last year, the companies had said that the new hybrid cloud solution will help enterprises build new apps on-premises or in the Google Cloud using the existing developer tools, run-time, and production environment.
This week at Cisco Live 2018, Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins and Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene discussed the project on stage during a keynote. They said that they want to give companies the freedom to develop and deploy applications securely which spans on-premises data centers and the public cloud.
The collaboration on hybrid cloud architecture will allow businesses and IT teams to leverage agility and innovation powered by cloud, without having to sacrifice IT security and control. It will help them drive business innovation and get the most from existing application investments and cloud-native tools.
The new joint hybrid cloud solution will have integration of Cisco Container Platform and Cisco CloudCenter for Kubernetes. Cisco has been working closely with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) to make an integrated solution for customers building apps across hybrid cloud environments.
The Cisco and Google Cloud Developer Center created by Cisco DevNet offers several development tools which helps developers in exploring open source technologies and work on hybrid cloud solutions.
The joint solution will also allow customers to connect to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) like GKE, BigQuery, BigTable, Cloud SQL, Spanner, Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub via their on-premises environment.
Additionally, Cisco and Google are integrating Cisco Webex Meetings and Google Calendar. It will allow users to easily create, view and join Webex Meetings directly from a Calendar event.
“We know the technology solution is just one part of what businesses need. We’re working with Google Cloud and the rest of our entire partner ecosystem to ensure that businesses are able to take advantage of the solution, whether they need training, integration, development, or other capabilities,” wrote Cisco in a blog post.

Cisco Hybrid Cloud Platform for Google Cloud will be available through Google Cloud, Cisco and Cisco’s partner network later this year.
