In a groundbreaking collaboration, Nvidia Corp and Snowflake Inc have decided to enter a partnership that will enable businesses to build generative AI applications leveraging their own data within the Snowflake Data Cloud. This announcement was made on Monday at the Snowflake Summit 2023 that’s being held in Las Vegas.

Businesses will now be able to train their generative language models to unprecedented levels of sophistication and accuracy on the propriety data sets available in Snowflake’s Data Cloud by leveraging the Nvidia NeMoTm Platform and Nvidia GPU.

In the old days, in small data computing, you moved data to the computer,” Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang told Reuters. “But when you have giant amounts of data like Snowflake does, and the pile of proprietary data … data that’s so valuable to a company, then you move the compute to the data.”

This strategic partnership aims to revolutionize the way businesses approach AI development.

Nvidia NeMo platform is a powerful toolkit designed to accelerate natural language processing tasks. With Snowflake’s data warehouse capabilities, businesses gain access to vast amounts of structured and unstructured data, which can be seamlessly used to train language models and generate AI-driven insights.

Snowflake’s partnership with NVIDIA will bring high-performance machine learning and artificial intelligence to our vast volumes of proprietary and structured enterprise data, a new frontier to bringing unprecedented insights, predictions and prescriptions to the global world of business,” said Frank Slootman, chairman and CEO of Snowflake.

The partnership between Snowflake and Nvidia not only offers a collaborative platform that allows customers to fast-track customized AI development and deployment but also addresses the challenges associated with data privacy and security. Snowflake’s built-in data governance and compliance features ensure that businesses can harness the power of their data without compromising on privacy or regulatory requirements.

The demand for industry-specific data has been on the rise. Snowflake’s wide range of domain-specific data clouds available in its cloud data platform is more than capable of handling the demand.  As a result, this collaboration has already garnered significant attention from industry leaders, researchers, and developers who recognize the immense potential it holds.

More enterprises than we expected are training or at least fine-tuning their own AI models, as they increasingly appreciate the value of their own data assets,” said Alexander Harrowell, principal analyst for advanced computing for AI at technology research group Omdia. “Similarly, enterprises are beginning to operate more diverse fleets of AI models for business-specific applications. Supporting them in this trend is one of the biggest open opportunities in the sector.”

As this partnership takes flight, the world eagerly anticipates the groundbreaking AI applications that will emerge from the synergy between Snowflake’s proprietary data platform and NVIDIA’s NEMO toolkit. The possibilities are endless, and the impact on businesses and society as a whole is set to be truly transformative.
