Mobile Operators and Microsoft most popular vendor choices for IoT deployment

1 Mins read

According to a recent enterprise IoT survey from Strategy Analytics, mobile operators and Microsoft are the most popular vendor choices for enterprises considering vendors for deploying IoT solutions. HPE, IBM, and Oracle closely follow and are the next popular choices.

Strategy Analytics conducted survey of 1200 enterprises based in the US, UK, France and Germany, and found that the patterns in vendor selection for IoT deployment are developing despite the emerging nature of IoT market worldwide.

The IoT vendor selection was based on price, robustness of technology and the vendor’s knowledge. The top 5 list of vendors comprise traditional enterprise software suppliers, so the vendor selection trend confirms that companies prefer their existing relationships and look forward to exploit them, rather than looking out for new vendors.

“The fact that no single vendor dominates enterprise consideration for IoT projects is a clear illustration of the complexity in deploying IoT. With Mobile Operators and Microsoft forming the top tier of consideration, these vendors are proving they have captured enterprise mindshare for IoT deployments,” said Andrew Brown, Executive Director, Strategy Analytics.

It was also found that IoT vendor selection varied according to the country. SAP, the German multinational software corporation, ranked #2 in Germany while it bottomed the Top-10 list in other regions. Similarly, Cisco and Oracle ranked higher in the US and France markets respectively, as compared to other country markets.

“With Mobile Operators coming out on top, the importance of wireless connectivity and expertise in this domain is flagged as a key component in the deployment and management of IoT,” said David Kerr, Senior Vice President, Strategy Analytics.

Apart from the top 7 vendors mentioned above, Google, Telit, Samsung, Aeris, Kore, PTC, Amazon, EMC, Blackberry and Ericsson were also covered in the survey.
