Microsoft powers SharePoint with mixed reality and AI capabilities

1 Mins read

Microsoft steps ahead in its commitment to bring mixed-reality and artificial intelligence to all its products. At its SharePoint Virtual Summit, the tech giant announced the preview version of SharePoint spaces, and new AI innovation to SharePoint and OneDrive.

The SharePoint spaces will enable users to view and interact with content from every angle, and visualize and manipulate data and product models in real-time, Microsoft said.

SharePoint with mixed reality experience will help businesses in onboarding new employees, learning new objectives, and developing new products.

It comes with simple point-and-click functionality and smart templates, allowing users to create mixed reality environments with ambient sounds, lighting, beautiful surroundings, and rich textures.

Users can add the existing data, documents and images from SharePoint to these MR environments.

“SharePoint spaces are the most natural way to view and interact with 3D content, empowering people to interact with objects that might be too numerous, too large, or too dynamic to experience in the real world or in a two-dimensional environment,” wrote Jeff Teper, Corporate Vice President for OneDrive, SharePoint, and Office, in a blog post.

The SharePoint spaces will allow users to view and interact with content not only on HoloLens or Windows MR headsets, but also in browsers and other headsets.

It is integrated with Microsoft Graph so that users can gain insights from data and find relevant information. Further, it will allow businesses to use SharePoint Framework to build the new capabilities.

At the Microsoft Build 2018, the tech giant had announced two new mixed reality apps— Microsoft Remote Assist and Microsoft Layout, to fuel the new age of technology.

On the artificial intelligence front, Microsoft has added personalized and intelligent search capabilities in the SharePoint mobile app. It will save time for the users and help them find people, content, and answers to the questions while on the go.

The new personalized experience in Office.com will be powered by AI to provide a list of recommended files that should matter the most to users.

The OneDrive mobile app will now have a new Scan button which will make it easier to capture photos, documents, whiteboards and business cards. The businesses can configure OneDrive to upload photos automatically to Office 365.
