India had celebrated when Satya Nadella took over as CEO of the technology giant Microsoft, in February 2014.
At Microsoft India Development Center in Hyderabad, India-born Satya Nadella promoted his book “Hit Refresh- The Quest to Rediscover Microsoft’s Soul and imagine a Better Future for Everyone”. He talked about his journey from his childhood to becoming the CEO of Microsoft.
“Satya has charted a course for making the most of the opportunities created by technology while also facing up to the hard questions.” – Bill Gates from the Foreword to Hit Refresh
Satya Nadella has written about the digital transformation and the technology Microsoft is working on, and how it will soon impact the human life. For Nadella, the future belongs to the most exciting and disruptive wave of technology, including AI, mixed reality, and quantum computing.
“Ideas excite me,” Nadella explains. “Empathy grounds and centers me. Hit Refresh is a set of reflections, meditations, and recommendations presented as algorithms from a principled, deliberative leader searching for improvement—for himself, for a storied company, and for society.”
Nadella admitted that the things he learnt in India have helped him write new codes of life for the global audience of Microsoft, whether it’s Microsoft 365, Windows 10, or the other emerging technologies. Hit Refresh is a set of questions for people searching for improvement, for themselves as leaders, for the institutions and for the society, Nadella said.
When we hit refresh in web browser, it updates, keeping some things and replacing others. The same way, the leaders, organizations, corporates, and societies need to hit refresh in order to make a sustained impact over a period of time.
In his book, Nadella has shared how people, organizations and societies can transform with new energy, ideas and continuous renewal. Microsoft is rapidly transforming everything from culture to their competitive landscape and industry partnerships.
“At the core, Hit Refresh is about us humans and the unique quality we call empathy, which will become ever more valuable in a world where the torrent of technology will disrupt the status quo like never before.”– Satya Nadella from Hit Refresh
Satya Nadella concluded that as an engineer, humanist and an executive, his vision is for the future technologies that can impact the society and deliver call to action for the world leaders.
“Hit Refresh” is published by HarperCollins and went on sale globally on Sept. 26, 2017. It will soon be available in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. Nadella will donate all proceeds from Hit Refresh to Microsoft Philanthropies. We are waiting for the book reviews.
