Juniper Networks, the leading networking player, has announced updates to its Contrail Cloud platform that will help service providers to address the challenges associated with building and operating highly scalable and distributed telco-cloud environments.
Contrail Cloud is the telco cloud platform that runs high performance Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) technologies to help service providers deliver innovative services with greater agility by utilizing Juniper’s trusted industry expertise. Juniper has now enhanced it by integrating OpenStack platform and RedHat’s Ceph Storage; in-built AppFormix automation and visibility; advanced NFVs; and new support services for providing carriers an easy method of delivering IoT, business and mobile services in the cloud.
Juniper surveyed its customers and found that over 40% of respondents faced challenges in migrating to the cloud due to lack of visibility for all parts of cloud networks, operational complexity, skills gaps among engineers, and rip-and-replace costs.
The aim of enhancing the Contrail Cloud is to overcome the issues related to support, interoperability and management that users face while building cloud environment with heterogenous components. Contrail Cloud now includes simplified underlying Linux distribution with RedHat, and seamless network insights with AppFormix to make telco cloud deployment far easier.
“Realizing the benefits of the cloud is near the top of the list for strategic imperatives for nearly all service providers big and small — equivalent to keeping costs low and innovation high. Unfortunately for many, that move isn’t as easy as just flipping a switch. Based on our experiences in helping to run the cloud networks of some of the largest telcos in the world, we are introducing an easy, prescriptive path to building and operating a cloud, and making it available to all.”
– Pratik Roychowdhury, senior director of product management, Contrail at Juniper Networks
The NFV service assurance of Juniper’s AppFormix utilizes machine learning capabilities to offer continued response and learning abilities for seamless operation. It also includes support for Juniper’s vSRX Virtual Firewall, and Mobile Content Cloud virtual Evolved Packet Core (vEPS) solution from Affirmed Networks, that will enable mobile service providers better their service agility, and reduce the total cost of ownership.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Juniper Networks to reduce the complexity of building a cloud and deliver an open, cloud-grade solution. As an industry leader for OpenStack and Ceph, we’ve set a clear vision for how software-defined compute and storage can play a transformational role in high-performance service provider clouds for NFV solutions. Building on Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Ceph Storage, Contrail Cloud offers a compelling solution for customers to help them realize the true benefits of cloud and NFV.”
– Radhesh Balakrishnan, general manager, OpenStack, Red Hat
