Google has officially rebranded its renowned Bard AI chatbot as Gemini. This rebranding aligns the chatbot with the powerful capabilities of the Large Language Model at its core. The upgraded version, known as Gemini Advanced, offers a more robust and versatile AI experience.
Capable of advanced reasoning, following instructions, coding, and creative collaboration, Gemini Advanced functions as a personal tutor or a creative partner. It promises an enhanced learning experience tailored to individual styles and facilitates content strategy planning or business plan development.
Gemini is a result of the collaboration between Google’s Brain and DeepMind AI labs. This generative AI model stands out with its multimodal capabilities and efficient tool and API integrations. Trained on proprietary data from various Google services, including Search, Books, YouTube, and Scholar, Gemini is designed to be efficient and effective.
Presently available in over 150 countries and territories in English, Gemini Advanced will progressively extend language support. It is a key component of the newly launched Google One AI Premium Plan, priced at $19.99/month, featuring a complimentary two-month trial. This comprehensive plan offers the best of Google AI, incorporating the latest innovations, alongside the benefits of the existing Google One Premium plan, including 2TB of storage.
Gemini on mobile devices
Gemini is introducing a streamlined mobile experience, making it even more accessible and user-friendly. With a dedicated app on Android and integration into the Google app on iOS, Gemini and Gemini Advanced are now at your fingertips, providing a versatile AI assistant for various tasks.
The new mobile experience allows users to interact with Gemini through typing, voice commands, or by adding images, facilitating on-the-go assistance. Whether you need help with specific instructions, generating custom images, or drafting a challenging text message, Gemini on your phone is designed to be conversational, multimodal, and highly useful.
The Gemini app on Android supports various Google Assistant voice features, including setting timers, making calls, and controlling smart home devices. Future updates are in the works to expand the range of supported features.
From supercharging creativity to creating custom images, drafting social posts, and even planning a date night, Gemini on iOS promises a dynamic and engaging experience.
Gemini is currently rolling out on Android and iOS devices in the U.S. in English, with full availability expected in the coming weeks. Starting next week, users will be able to access Gemini in more locations in English, as well as in Japanese and Korean. Further expansion plans encompass additional countries and languages.
Get Gemini across Google products
The integration of Gemini extends beyond individual use, reaching into the daily operations of people and businesses, including Workspace and Google Cloud:
Workspace Integration: Over a million users are already benefiting from features like “Help me write” through Duet AI, which will transition into Gemini for Workspace. Subscribers to the Google One AI Premium plan can soon leverage Gemini across various applications such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet.
Google Cloud Integration: Gemini for Google Cloud will offer increased productivity, faster coding for developers, and enhanced cybersecurity measures, among other benefits.
Google Gemini vs Microsoft Copilot
The introduction of ChatGPT by OpenAI in November 2022 set off a race among tech giants to surpass its capabilities. In February 2023, Google entered the fray by launching Bard with the expectation of surpassing existing benchmarks in the AI industry.
The rebranding of Bard as Gemini, coupled with its seamless integration across diverse Google products, signals the beginning of an intense competition with Microsoft Copilot. Priced at $20 per month per user, Copilot Pro promises to revolutionize various facets of work, from writing and coding to designing, researching, and learning. With the pricing of Gemini closely aligning with this offering, it sets the stage for a dynamic rivalry in a landscape where organizations are increasingly harnessing advanced artificial intelligence for heightened productivity and efficiency.
