In a strategic move aimed at reinforcing its presence in the critical domain of artificial intelligence (AI) and hybrid cloud, IBM has officially acquired the StreamSets and webMethods platform from Software AG, a prominent German software company. Valued at 2.13 billion Euros, this significant deal highlights IBM’s dedication to expanding its capabilities in data ingestion, AI, and API management.
This acquisition is expected to have a profound impact on IBM’s Watsonx, the company’s comprehensive AI and data platform. StreamSets, known for its state-of-the-art data integration technology, will empower Watsonx with advanced data ingestion capabilities, facilitating a more efficient and streamlined processing of large datasets.
Simultaneously, the integration of webMethods into IBM’s suite will provide additional tools for integration and API management. Recognized for its robust solutions, webMethods offers efficient management of application programming interfaces (APIs) and seamless integration of diverse enterprise systems.
Launched in October, StreamSets and webMethods together formed Software AG’s business called “Super iPaaS” which will be acquired by IBM with available cash. This works well for the private equity firm SilverLake which owns 93.3% shares of the German company.
“The opportunity to bring the StreamSets and webMethods teams together with IBM to innovate in building the future of hybrid cloud and next-generation AI solutions for the enterprise is uniquely compelling,” Christian Lucas, chairman of the supervisory board of Software AG said.
“Together with IBM’s Watsonx AI and data platform, as well as its application modernization data fabric and IT automation products, StreamSets and webMethods will help clients unlock the full potential of their application and data. This powerful combination helps drive innovation while preparing businesses for AI, no matter where applications or data reside,” said Rob Thomas SVP, Software and Chief Commercial Officer, IBM.
The Agreement is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, with both parties anticipating the completion of the transaction in the coming months.
