Google is joining the chatbot race with its AI-powered addition, ‘Bard’, in an effort to compete against the wildly popular ChatGPT. With this announcement, the tech giant will be introducing cutting-edge conversational artificial intelligence to the public.
“We’ve been working on an experimental conversational AI service, powered by LaMDA, that we’re calling Bard. And today, we’re taking another step forward by opening it up to trusted testers ahead of making it more widely available to the public in the coming weeks,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet.

What is Bard? How does it work?
Bard is Google’s conversational AI service that uses a set of deep learning algorithms to respond to questionnaires. It combines expansive knowledge with the power, intelligence, and creativity of Google’s large language models to provide fresh, high-quality responses based on information from the web. The chatbot is built on LaMDA technology and uses the web to find answers to questions. Bard AI improves its performance by learning from its encounters with humans.
Google will be releasing Bard with a lightweight model version of LaMDA, enabling it to scale to more users and garner more feedback. By combining external feedback with its internal testing, Google can make sure Bard’s responses meet high quality, safety, and is grounded in real-world information.
With its sophisticated training in dialogue, LaMDA can grasp subtle nuances that dictate the flow of open-ended conversation. Fine-tuning LaMDA can enhance its sensibleness and accuracy in responding – making for a more meaningful exchange every time.
At present, Google Bard is only available to select users and cannot be tested by the public.
