A paradigm shift is underway in the technology industry, as advancements in generative AI are transforming the way people engage with technology. Google is leading this charge by offering developers and businesses access to generative AI capabilities through Google Cloud and MakerSuite. With the introduction of new APIs and products, Google is enabling developers to build scalable, safe, and user-friendly applications using the company’s cutting-edge AI models. Moreover, Google Workspace is also getting new features that will help users harness the power of generative AI to collaborate, connect and create.

PaLM API and MakerSuite for developers experimenting with AI

Google has announced the launch of the PaLM API, designed to assist developers in experimenting with AI in a safe and user-friendly manner. The PaLM API leverages Google’s best language models, and its first iteration is both efficient and compact, with additional models expected to be introduced shortly.

Along with PaLM API, Google is also offering MakerSuite, an intuitive tool that enables developers to quickly prototype their ideas. In the future, MakerSuite will be enhanced with features such as prompt engineering, synthetic data generation, and custom-model tuning, all backed by robust safety tools.

At present, select developers can access the PaLM API and MakerSuite in Private Preview.

Generative AI capabilities in Google Cloud

Developers who are interested in creating and tailoring their models and applications through generative AI can utilize Google’s AI models, such as PaLM, via Google Cloud. Google is adding fresh generative AI features to its Google Cloud AI collection, allowing developers and businesses to leverage enterprise-level safety, security, and privacy, as well as integrate with their present Cloud solutions:

Generative AI support in Vertex AI: Developers and businesses are leveraging Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform for building and deploying machine learning models and AI applications at scale. Google is now offering foundation models, starting with text and image generation, and eventually expanding to include audio and video. Google Cloud customers will be able to explore models, create and modify prompts, refine them with their data, and deploy applications employing these powerful new technologies.

Generative AI App Builder: Businesses and governments that want to build their AI-powered chat interfaces and digital assistants can do so with Google’s Generative AI App Builder. The app builder links conversational AI flows with readily available search experiences and foundation models, enabling businesses to construct generative AI applications within minutes or hours.

New AI partnerships and programs: In addition to announcing new Google Cloud AI products, Google is expanding its AI ecosystem and specialized programs for technology partners, AI-focused software providers, and startups.

Generative AI features in Google Workspace

Over 3 billion individuals are currently reaping the benefits of AI-powered functionalities in Google Workspace, whether it’s via Smart Compose in Gmail or auto-generated summaries in Google Docs. Google is now introducing a new set of features to a select group of trusted testers, making the writing process even more effortless.

With these features, users will be able to perform a variety of tasks such as

  • Drafting, replying, summarizing, and prioritizing their Gmail.
  • Brainstorm, proofread, write, and rewrite in Docs.
  • Create auto-generated images, audio, and video in Slides.
  • In Sheets, they can convert raw data into insights and analysis using auto completion, formula generation, and contextual categorization.
  • Generate new backgrounds and take notes in Meet, as well as establish workflows for accomplishing tasks in Chat.

With the new feature in Gmail and Google Docs, users can enter a topic they wish to write about, and a draft will be instantly created, saving time and effort. Users can then modify the message’s tone, length, and style in a few clicks. These novel experiences will be available to testers in the forthcoming weeks.

Generative AI has enormous potential to revolutionize various aspects of our lives. It can facilitate people in expressing their creativity, empower developers to create novel applications, and revolutionize how businesses and governments interact with their customers and constituents. As this technology continues to evolve, it will undoubtedly unlock countless opportunities and change the way we work, live, and communicate.
