Google follows its tradition of naming Android versions after sweet treats and announces Oreo to be the upcoming version of Android. It will be referred as the ‘Android O’. The Oreo is most likely to make debut in Google’s upcoming Nexus mobile which begins selling in October this year.
The Oreo will let the users respond to notifications directly on a phone’s home screen and access to android apps on Play Store without first installing them to save the mobile data. The boot speed will be two times faster when powering the device ON, and once powered up, the ‘Autofill’ option remember things like logins to have quick access to the favorite apps.
The background activity in the apps will be minimized to save the power consumption and increase the battery life. The apps will have a dot on them whenever a new notification arrives which can be seen and cleared without opening the app. It will also have the ‘picture-in-picture’ feature which will let the users see two apps at once.

The earlier android versions had also been named after chocolates and other sweet treats which were Nougat, Marshmallow, Lollypop, KitKat, Jelly Bean etc. According to sources, no money was exchanged between Google and Oreo indicating that it is a partnership rather than a sponsorship.
