Datalogz to end “Business Intelligence Sprawl” — Raises of $2.3M in seed funding after successful pilots with Fortune 500 companies

3 Mins read

Datalogz, a Business Intelligence Ops platform, has successfully closed a seed funding round of $2.3M. The platform is focused on ending the problem of Business Intelligence and analytics sprawl. The funding round was led by Squadra Ventures, with participation from Berkeley SkyDeck, Trajectory Ventures, and Mana Ventures.

In today’s business world, companies are inundated with an ever-growing pile of data reports. While this abundance of information is necessary for success, the high volume of reports often becomes unmanageable.

This overwhelming number of reports leads to a serious risk known as “BI sprawl.” When companies have an unmanageable number of reports, mistakes can occur, leading to enormous costs, reduced data integrity, and security risks. Additionally, the lack of optimization in the BI environment drives up unnecessary costs, such as data warehouse spend, licensing fees, duplicate compute, and cloud storage fees.

“As a data analyst and BI Admin at JetBlue, I experienced firsthand the pain of a sprawling BI environment – limited observability, tool overload, and huge costs associated with running reports that nobody ever read,” says Logan Havern, CEO and Co-Founder.

As enterprises embrace cloud migration and digital transformation, there is a universal mandate to be “data driven.” However, this often leads to the generation of countless reports that go unread, resulting in millions of dollars in wasted costs and significant risks. Datalogz helps organizations overcome these challenges by leveraging metadata and logs from BI tools to quickly identify and recommend solutions for duplication, misreporting, inefficient queries, anomalies in usage, and unnecessary expenses.

Datalogz seamlessly integrates with the leading BI tools, including Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Qlik, Spotfire, and Mode. Additionally, it is a verified application provider for Power BI by Microsoft. The platform is easily deployable in minutes on AWS and Azure and accessible online.

Datalogz connects seamlessly with existing BI tools, enabling BI Admins, Heads of Data, and Chief Data Officers to instantly manage the massive amount of dashboards and reports being generated. The platform detects critical issues such as downtime, duplication, and governance risks, and provides real-time recommendations and workflows for reducing duplication, flagging anomalies, and updating stale data sets.

The BI Ops feature of Datalogz creates the necessary guardrails that make enterprise-wide BI initiatives successful by leveraging best practices from DevOps and increasing optimization. With Datalogz, data and analytics leaders now have a new tool that streamlines their decision-making process, improves data reliability and governance, and optimizes their BI infrastructure and architecture.

“Just as DevOps revolutionized software development and deployment 15 years ago, BI Ops will transform the way that organizations manage and derive insight from their data and metadata,” said Havern.

Datalogz Team

Following their graduation from the Berkeley SkyDeck Accelerator in September 2022, Havern and his team have conducted successful pilots with Fortune 500 companies. These pilots have demonstrated potential cost savings in the millions within the first year of implementation.

In addition to Havern, the Datalogz team consists of co-founder and COO, Pablo Lerdo de Tejada, co-founder and Head of Business Development, Tina Bhatia, and Head of Engineering, Tom Juntunen.

“Logan and the Datalogz team are hungry, empathetic to the users they serve, and have the right experience to help data-driven organizations cut costs, reduce risks, and increase efficiency within their business intelligence environment,” said Guy Filippelli, Managing Partner at Squadra Ventures. “We’re excited to support Datalogz mission to improve the applied usage of data across industries and sectors, making data more accessible and impactful.”

The funding received will be allocated towards continuing the validation of consistent use cases for enterprise customers, developing additional integrations with data tools, and building out critical risk and compliance features. The entire team will relocate to their HQ in Long Island City, New York.

Moreover, with the new funding, Filippelli will be joining the Board of Directors at Datalogz. The company will premiere the Datalogz platform at the Gartner Data and Analytics Conference on March 20-22, 2023 in Orlando, FL. Demo meetings can be scheduled at .

The company has vacancies, including a Full-Stack Engineer and Analytics Engineer, which can be viewed at https://www.datalogz.io/careers.
