Cloud Expo Asia Hong Kong 2019

The fourth edition of Cloud Expo Asia welcomed more than 12,500 attendees at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 22nd and 23rd May.

It is the biggest and best-attended technology event of North Asia which also had co-located events— Cloud & Cyber Security Expo, Big Data World, Smart IoT and Data Centre World.

This year, the event hosted over 280 tier 1 solution leaders, specialized in cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, internet of things (IoT), digital transformation, data center, infrastructure, and more. These leaders came from Alibaba Cloud, Google Cloud, SAP, Huawei Cloud, Siemens, Sophos, Vertiv, and TIBCO Software.

Mr. Victor Lam, JP, Government CIO of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, opened the event as an esteemed Guest-of-Honour.

“We are dedicating our efforts to building the Next Generation Government Cloud, which is a central digital platform adopting a hybrid cloud design.  Apart from implementing a reliable private cloud, we will also make good use of the public cloud with better scalability to expand the system hosting capacity so as to meet the increasing demand of public services,” said Mr. Lam.

“I would like to thank the organiser for putting together an excellent programme for this event.”

The conference agenda featured several insightful presentations, round tables, and workshops. World-class speakers from the industry led the two-day event with their keynote notes. These included:

  • Fuller Yu of the Hospital Authority
  • Race Wong of Ohmyhome
  • Rex Ching of TVB
  • Niranjan Paranjape, CTO of Go-Jek
  • Richard Leung, Group Chief Technology Officer of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEC)
  • Torquill Pagdin, Director, Technology (Data Engineering) of Hotels.com – an Expedia Group Brand.

“Cloud Expo Asia allows us to share our perspective, get feedback from the audience and discuss the hardest industry topics. This is important because as analysts we need to learn what we should be focusing on. Over the years, Cloud Expo Asia has really matured. The energy and excitement are clear for all to see, and the content includes all of the most important cloud topics in a structured way,” said Ms Agatha Poon, an analyst at 451 Research, who delivered a session on the future-proofing multi-cloud strategies.

The exhibitors admitted that the event helped them drive commercial success over the two days.

“The event is great as people come from all over the world, not just from Hong Kong but also from the UK and Europe. The sales team came here to meet new customers and they are really pleased with the number they have been able to meet and talk to,” said Ms. Cindy Cheng, representative of Schneider Electric.

Whereas, the visitors said that the tradeshow and conferences were very valuable and insightful.

“This is my second time visiting Cloud Expo Asia. I am excited to be able to attend and obtain new information on IT trends,” said Mr. Chan, Vice President of JP Morgan. “Big data is one of the topics that the industry is concerned with, and I know this is where I can learn the latest industry news about it. I will surely visit again and will recommend this great event to others.”

The Cloud Expo Asia Hong Kong will return next year on 20-21 May at HKCEC.
