Alibaba Cloud has joined the Cloud Foundry Foundation as a Gold member, and will deploy Cloud Foundry on its infrastructure. Cloud Foundry is a leading open-source platform used by large enterprises for developing and deploying cloud applications. Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm and a business unit of Alibaba Group, which was a golden member of CNCF until yesterday, has now become a platinum member of the Foundation. The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) hosts major open source technologies including Kubernetes for orchestration, Prometheus for monitoring, CoreDNS for service discovery, and several others. IaaS Public Cloud Services Market Grew 31% in 2016 with Amazon in lead, followed by Microsoft, Alibaba: Gartner report

As per a new report by Gartner, Amazon Web Services dominated the world of IaaS market by being the #1 vendor in 2016, closely followed by Microsoft and Alibaba. More than $22 billion was spent on public cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) during 2016, which is 31% more than in 2015. There is a significant growth for all three hyperscale IaaS cloud providers, but looking forward, with the increase in competition, AWS will experience an erosion in growth, as per Gartner. Alibaba Cloud records high revenue, plans for global expansion

Alibaba Cloud – the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group Holding Limited, recently recorded the financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2017. It achieved the mark of 1 million paying customers which is an increase of 137,000 customers from the previous quarter results. The revenue also jumped to 96% year-over-year to RMB 2,431 million (US $359 million). The company considers growing base of paying customers and revenue mix coming from value-added services as the major reason behind the exponential results and high price targets set by stock brokers.
